Australian citizens or permanent residents may sponsor (nominate, take care of) certain relatives from overseas to obtain a permanent visa for Australia.

Parents

This visa category can be applied for by the parents of a child or an adopted child living in Australia. There are limited visas issued every year, and the demand by far outstrips the number of visas on offer. Very long waiting periods are therefore common. However, parents making a significant financial contribution payable on application may obtain a visa much earlier.

Aged dependant relatives

This visa is for single elderly people with relatives in Australia to whom they have been dependent for a reasonable amount of time.

Remaining Relatives

For persons who are the last family member still overseas.

Children

For dependent children of Australian citizens or permanent residents.
