Visitor Visas
These visas are primarily issued for tourism or to
visit family and relatives. Applicants from a number of countries
may apply online for an Electronic Travel Authority, where
as others are not eligible for an ETA, and may even have to
be sponsored by the relative being visited in Australia.
Tourist
This visa is given for the purpose of tourism in Australia
or for visiting family members. It does not give any work
rights, and the applicant has to have enough money for his/her
own support for the duration of the stays.
Sponsored Family Visitor
For the purpose of visiting relatives in Australia, with
a validity of up to one year. The visitor must be sponsored
by a relative. This maybe the only visitor visa available
to visitors from certain countries that are deemed to be "high
risk" by the Australian Immigration Department.
Electronic Travel Authority
An ETA can be obtained for the purpose of short stay visits
for passport holders of a number of countries*for tourism
and short business stays in Australia. ETAs are applied for
online, and there is no visa stamped into the holder's passport,
but the details of the visa are held electronically by Australian
Immigration and are accessed on arrival of the visa holder
in Australia.
* Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Canada,
Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong (SAR)
and UK passport holder in Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy,
Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco,
Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, South
Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland , USA, Vatican City, Taiwan
