Temporary Visas with work rights are sought after
and the Immigration Department strives to ensure that opportunities
for Australian residents are not adversely affected.
Business / Work Visa
Business visas can be issued for a short or long period of
up to 4 years. They are the most common temporary visas issued
for employment purposes. They are suitable for persons coming
to Australia who want to take up employment with an Australian
employer who sponsors* them. The visa does not allow changing
employers. Only skilled people can obtain this visa, and a
number of conditions have to be met before the visa is issued.
There are several other streams under this visa category.
* An employer who sponsors an employee on a temporary work
visa agrees to certain obligations in relation to that employee
Work and Holiday Visa
This type of temporary visa is issued to young people below
the age of 30 who have no children and wish to do casual work
while traveling Australia. Employment with any one employer
is limited to a period of 3 month. This Visa can only be obtained
once and is valid for 1 year, which can be extended to 2 years
under certain conditions.
Medical Practitioner
This visa allows qualified doctors to take up employment
in Australia for up to 4 years.
Educational Visas
There are a number of visas for certain teaching or academic
persons as well as for occupational trainees, who wish to
come to Australia for an internship or supervised training
as part of their overseas study or traineeship.
Domestic Worker Visas
These visas give the domestic staff of high level executives
or consular staff the opportunity to come to Australia with
their employers.
